About the event
The famous Christmas Truce of 1914 was a series of unplanned cease fires across the Western Front of WWI that took place on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Five months into the war French, German, and British soldiers put down their arms and met in no-man’s-land, where they exchanged food, traded souvenirs, sang carols, swapped prisoners, and even played soccer. This talk explores the different observations historians have made about the Christmas Truce, and the different meanings people have taken from this remarkable event.
