About the event
Dr. Jared Margulies discusses the current state of the illegal plant trade and “plant poaching” — exploring how and why people collect endangered plants, who's getting locked-up for it, and the many challenges to fighting practices that are sending some species quickly into extinction. Many of these plants, including household succulents, are among the most endangered species in the world.
Dr. Jared Margulies is an assistant professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Alabama. His research focuses on the political ecology of human-wildlife interactions, wildlife trades, and the politics of biodiversity conservation. His research has investigated the political and economic foundations of human-wildlife conflicts in South India, and his current research focuses on illicit trades in endangered plant species.
